Day 108..."Remembrance and Feasts...Are Christians Wimps?...Do not look back!
Deuteronomy 17 is another chapter of remembrance. Remembering the passover is one of the hightlights. In addition to Passover observance, we read of instruction for the festivals of weeks and booths. There is a strong call for justice in this chapter..."Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving you." The Psalmist says..."With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes." Valiance is used to demonstrate God gives us courage. Who says those who follow God are wimps!!!
James, John, and Peter observe the transfiguration. What a sight to see Jesus transfigured along with Elijah and Moses! Jesus healed a boy with an unclean spirit. In this Gospel of so many healing stories, I noticed the comment..."And all were astonished at the majesty of God."
The majesty of God is throughout the pages of our reading. In an interesting account, Luke describes Jesus rebuking His disciples for wanting revenge in the face of rejection. There is also a short teaching today about commitment... “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” In talking to farmers about this passage, you will plow crooked if you keep looking back. The vision of God is to look forward in trust and hope!
