Day 90..."Moses and War on Median...One of my favorite passages...Ending of Mark"
The reading today regards vengeance and war on the Midians. The plundering is difficult to understand. Reuban and Gilead settle in Gad. This is done to stop the anger of the Lord. Joshua and Caleb are again commended. Psalm 90 holds one of my top ten passages..."For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past,or as a watch in the night." Our notion of time is earthly...forever is the Lord's. A thousand years is but a day to God. Awesome!
Mark's ending is debated. Some versions tell of surviving snakes bites...others do not. Do not look for me ever to test snakes at Cokesbury! I hate snakes!

I would not encourage anyone to pick up snakes, but it does appear that this passage is supported when it is recorded in the book of Acts that Paul was bitten by a snake and had no ill effects. The event served as a witness to the people who were watching and it opened the door to ministry.
