Day 168..."Saul begins to falter...David emerges...Lazarus"
In today's reading, we begin to see the faltering of Saul. The Lord gives a direct word about what is most important in leadership..."For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” This would be true with young, ruddy, and handsome David. We will read much more about David. Proverbs offers clear words..."The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty" and "Whoever pursues righteousness and kindnesswill find life, righteousness, and honor." In today's John reading, we have the amazing life changing or should I say "life raising" story of Lazarus! Four days dead left no doubt he was really dead. (this was beyond any doubt and would also be a part of Jesus' resurrection, after three days) Jesus' raising Lazarus from the dead created a stir. It was no longer possible for Jesus to walk as openly around those who would plot to kill Him.

Today's reading in John always amazes me in the reaction of the witnesses to the resurrection of Lazarus. Some believed, but others run off to tell the religious leaders what Jesus has now done! This is the nature of God's works... to some it creates/reinforces their faith. For others in increases their doubt! May we be people of faith - praise God.
