Day 170..."Saul becomes unstable...Jesus attracts a large crowd"

In reading the story in I Samuel, we see a sad story of Saul's instability and insecurity. He becomes unstable through jealousy of David's accomplishments and feats. David and Jonathon form a special friendship and devise a plan of shooting arrows. The outcome is David will have to seek safety and leave. Saul is unstable and irrational. Ironically the 23rd Proverb also speaks of the dangers of dining with rulers..."When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite." Power does corrupt and desiring power distorts life. Jesus enters Jerusalem to a large crowd. They have heard of the rising of Lazarus from the dead. The motivations of the Pharisees is also stated in the text... "for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God." A good question for us to ask..."what motivates us?"

Having been delivered from Alcoholism 30 yrs ago by the Lord Jesus, I can testify to the description in today's reading of the effect of alcohol. Mixed or otherwise it is a devil of a master...Thank God for His mercy and grace to set me free.
