Day 171..."David Continues to Hide from Saul...Strength in wisdom and service"
In our reading from I Samuel 21, 22; David dramatically seeks to hide and find security from Saul. King Saul is now officially "off his rocker." Remember all of this started by jealousy...The little jingle ..."Saul struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?” Saul could not handle David's popularity and all the details like killing 80 priests ...are all rooted in the deadly sin of "envy." The Proverbs offers more truth about evil rulers... "Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them, for their hearts devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble." Stability comes from the wisdom of the Lord as indicated by the words..."By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filledwith all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might." Jesus offers another way to be strong today...be a servant. Jesus washes His disciples feet and says..."If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him." Strength comes by serving others.
