Day 5 What to make of Noah's becoming drunk in his own vineyard?

What are we to make of the story of Noah drunk from his own vineyard? Scholars debate an issue of modesty (lying uncovered) and imply the "nakedness" implies even more. One possibility is that the sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth really respected their father and were embarrassed for him.

On a more simple note...does the rainbow still not reveal the glory of God! I know scientifically we can explain a prism of colors but really...have we marveled at a rainbow lately? How can we not think of God's faithfulness?

I have read that a sign of truse in the ancient world is the reversing of a bow. God's rainbow is a sign of truse from Him that goes along with His promise to never again destroy all living creatures as He did with the flood. Jill Anderson

When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said,

“Cursed be Canaan;
a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”

26 He also said,

“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem;
and let Canaan be his servant.
27 May God enlarge Japheth, [4]
and let him dwell in the tents of Shem,
and let Canaan be his servant.”

I don't understand why Noah cursed Canaan. Should Ham have walked out and let Noah sleep it off without telling his brothers? Was it the act of seeing the nakedness, or was it that he told his brothers that got his land cursed to be servants?

The answer to the nakedness question might be found in Lv. 20:11. It refers to a "Husband's nakedness as being "a mans wife" in several translations. This sin of Canaan has many implications in the future as we continue to read - even for today's relations in the fertile crescent.

In regards to the promise by God reflected in the rainbow. The world will not be destroyed by flooding but will be destroyed by fire. Sodom is an example of God's judgement by fire and the world is being held to the end for God's Judgement. Then, the new heaven and earth will be revealed and God will dwell with men for ever and ever and ever - Praise God!
