Day 10 "Are you shocked by what you read in the Bible?"
After the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah...the story of Lot's daughters getting their father drunk and bearing his children is reading that will make you blush. Yet...this is part of the relevance of the Bible. Real people and real stories...some of the stories bizarre. We can find most everything in the Bible...including shocking stories. Today's story has historical significance regarding the Moabites and Ammonites. Are you shocked by what you read in the Bible?

It is hard to understand some of the 'real life' stories. That must have been some powerful wine. And for Lot's wife to turn into a pillar of salt for what seems like such a minor reason. She had enough faith to leave as told, but went against the don't look back part of God's message. Can you imagine how shocked Lot would be?
I can remember this story having an impact on me as a young boy.

For modern man, the stories in the Bible seem like fiction but elsewhere in the Bible we are told that they are examples for us... how wonderful is our loving God to prepare such examples with the lives of others. The example of Lot's wife is given by Jesus to those who are attached to this world to the point that they look back at the Lord's return. Lot's daughter's view was that to not have children was a terrible thing, contrary to the way many think today.
