Day 42 Do we always listen to the crowd?
Two stories today warn us not to listen to crowds. The golden calf resulted from a mob who demanded a god they could see. Jesus enters Jerusalem and the crowd chanted "hosanna." This same fickle crowd will turn on Jesus in only days. We would do well to learn from these two stories...be aware of following the crowd. They may be loud but they could be wrong!

Today's two stories indicate a much bigger potential issue to me. We are encouraged to give up this world and follow Jesus. The world's way leads to destruction, i.e. golden calves and earthly kingdoms - both passing away. God's way will not be popular but it leads to life forever more. Try to enter the narrow gate and follow Jesus trusting God that even in death, there is resurrection life.

Good point Jim! I have also noticed the narrow gate does widen after the initial call of commitment. The wide gate becomes more narrow as chaos eliminates freedom. How deceiving that the wide gate actually becomes the narrow one! And the narrow one becomes the wide one with abundant life!
